The aerospace industry in Berlin-Brandenburg
The BBAA – Berlin-Brandenburg Aerospace Alliance e.V. is the regional economic association supporting the interests of the local up-and-coming aerospace industry. It combines the interests of its members and actively represents these interests in the economic, political, and public spheres.
The BBAA was founded by eleven partners in 1998 and now includes over sixty companies ranging from scientific institutions and highly specialized small and medium sized companies up to global players such as Lufthansa, MTU, and Rolls-Royce. The association thus represents the vast majority of the approximately 16,000 employees in the regional aerospace sector. In 2004 the sector’s turnover exceeded one billion Euros. Berlin-Brandenburg is considered Germany’s third centre for the aerospace industry.
With the BBAA Engine Technology network initiative, the foundation of the Galileo Applications Centre Berlin-Brandenburg (together with FAV, TelematicsPro, and GEOkomm), and other important projects, the association has set the tone for growth and increased employment in the region. With the annual Aerospace Day and the awarding of the Lilienthal Prize, the BBAA organizes an effective platform for dialogue among business, the sciences and politics. The association is committed to the prompt realisation of the new BBI capital city airport and supports the ILA Air Show in the Berlin region.
The BBAA is a member of the Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry (BDLI) and maintains partnerships with FAV, TelematicsPro, ALROUND as well as the French (AVIA), Belgian (EWA), and Canadian (AQA) regional aerospace associations.
