Lilienthal Prize

A regular feature of the Aerospace Day is the presentation of the Berlin-Brandenburg Lilienthal Prize.
The Lilienthal Prize is awarded to small and medium enterprises for especially innovative services to the aerospace industry that are close to the market. Yardsticks for evaluating the proposals submitted are their value as out of the ordinary and exemplary innovations, proof of their market relevance and the practical maturity of the plans to market as presented. Special interest is shown in proposals that serve to develop new technologies or processes or to develop them further, to improve companies’ competitive edge, to increase the export share of technology-intensive goods and services, to promote the economic development of problem locations and to secure jobs.

Aim
The aim is to present participating companies to a wider public and to enhance Berlin-Brandenburg’s role and image as a leading aviation location.

Annual Event
The event is held annually as an important regional platform of the aerospace industry in the capital city region.

Lilienthal Prize Foundation
The Lilienthal Prize was inaugurated in 2004. Under the patronage of Brandenburg state premier Matthias Platzeck and Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit of Berlin, the prize has become an increasingly prestigious award for new products and services in connection with aerospace.
After the initial award, made as part of the Berlin Air Show (ILA) in 2004, and a second successful presentation at the Berlin-Brandenburg Aerospace Day in May 2005, the prize was again awarded on 15 May 2006.
To ensure that a wide base exists for the prize and to anchor it on a long-term basis, since 2006 the prize has been awarded by the Lilienthal Prize Foundation.
